Keyword sources
Choose the keyword idea sources for weekly research: Search Console, Google Autocomplete, Bing Webmaster Tools and DataForSEO.
Keyword research always uses Google Search Console when it is connected. On top of that, you can add keyword idea sources: Google Autocomplete (free, no key), Bing Webmaster Tools (free key, beta) and DataForSEO (paid, optional). More sources give the research agent more ideas and better demand signals.
Compare the sources
| Source | Cost | What it gives | Search volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Search Console | Free | Queries you already get impressions for, with clicks, CTR and position | Your own impressions |
| Google Autocomplete | Free, no key | Long-tail searches people really type | No |
| Bing Webmaster Tools | Free key | Related keywords with Bing impressions | Bing impressions (90 days) |
| DataForSEO | Paid | Keyword ideas with Google volume, difficulty and intent | Google monthly volume |
Tip: Start with Search Console and Google Autocomplete. Add DataForSEO when you want Google volumes for research and for the AI prompt demand estimate.
Settings
Open Settings > Integrations, card Keyword sources (step 2).
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Google Autocomplete (free, no key) | Adds long-tail ideas from Google's search box | On |
| Bing Webmaster Tools (free, beta) | Adds related keywords with Bing impression counts | Off |
| Bing Webmaster API key | Key for the Bing source | Empty |
| DataForSEO (paid) | Adds Google volumes and difficulty. Uses the DataForSEO login | On (used only when a login is saved) |
Use Test Google Autocomplete and Test Bing to check them.
Seeds
Keyword sources start from seeds. Write them in Settings > Business profile > Seed topics for keyword research, comma or line separated. For example:
payroll software, salary slip format, PF calculation
If seed topics are empty, the agent uses up to 5 items from Products and services.
Ideas are fetched for your Target location and Language code in Settings > General. Click Detect location and language from my website to fill them in.
Set up Google Autocomplete
Nothing to set up. Leave it on. Click Test Google Autocomplete to see sample ideas for your first seed.
Set up Bing Webmaster Tools
- Sign in to Bing Webmaster Tools and verify your site. You can import it from Google Search Console.
- Open Settings > API access in Bing Webmaster Tools and copy your API key.
- In AgenticSEO, tick Bing Webmaster Tools (free, beta).
- Paste the Bing Webmaster API key.
- Click Save, then Test Bing.
Bing impressions are lower than Google volume, often several times lower. The agent treats them as a demand signal, not a Google number.
Note: Bing also matters for AI search. Seer Interactive found 87% of SearchGPT citations matched Bing top results.
Set up DataForSEO
- Create a DataForSEO account and add credit.
- In AgenticSEO, open the card DataForSEO (paid, optional).
- Enter the API login (usually your DataForSEO email) and API password.
- Click Save, then Test connection.
- In Keyword sources (step 2), make sure DataForSEO (paid) is ticked.
DataForSEO is used for:
- Keyword ideas with volume, difficulty and intent in research.
- Google monthly searches for the AI prompt demand estimate. See Prompts.
- Live search results for briefs, if you choose it as the SERP source. See SERP.
To remove DataForSEO, clear the login and save.
Warning: DataForSEO bills per request. Check the vendor site for current prices, and set a budget in your DataForSEO account.
What the research agent does with the ideas
The agent gets up to 150 ideas from each paid or Bing source and up to 200 from Autocomplete, along with Search Console and your page inventory. It scores each opportunity and rejects ones that do not fit. If no source returns data, it uses Search Console and your business profile, and lists the missing data as a gap in the report. See Keyword research.
Check which sources ran
- The Overview Setup card lists your active keyword sources, for example "Keyword sources: Autocomplete, DataForSEO".
- The research log on Agent activity shows "Keyword sources used: ...".
- Each lookup appears on the AI usage page under searches and lookups.
