Competitors
Add competitors so the AI visibility report shows how often ChatGPT and Gemini name them, and which other sites they cite.
AgenticSEO compares your brand with the competitors you list. For every AI answer, the agent records which competitors the answer names or cites. The Insights page then shows the share of AI answers that name each brand, so you can see who the AI recommends instead of you.
Add your competitors
- Open Settings > Business profile.
- In Competitors, write one competitor per line, with a name and a URL.
- Click Save.
Example:
Acme Payroll https://acmepayroll.com
PayEasy - payeasy.io
Ledgerly (ledgerly.com)
You can also add competitors during onboarding, in step 3.
How the lines are read
| Part | Rule |
|---|---|
| Separator | One competitor per line. A semicolon also works |
| URL | Optional. A full URL or a bare domain like payeasy.io |
| Name | The text left after the URL is removed. If there is no name, the first part of the domain is used |
An answer counts as naming a competitor when it contains the name as a whole word, the domain, or the first part of the domain. An answer also counts when it cites a page on that domain.
Tip: Write the name the way buyers and AI write it. "HubSpot" will match more answers than "HubSpot Inc. CRM Platform".
Read the competitor share
Go to Insights. Under the engine boxes, the card % of AI answers that name each brand lists your brand and each competitor:
- The count is how many answers named the brand in the latest rounds.
- The percent is that count divided by all answers.
- Your brand is marked (you).
If you have not added competitors, the card shows a reminder to add them in Settings > Business profile.
Per-prompt detail
Hover the ChatGPT or Gemini badge on any prompt row. The tooltip shows:
- The model and date of the latest round.
- How many runs named or cited you.
- Each competitor with its count, for example
PayEasy 4/5. - An excerpt of the latest answer.
Use this to find prompts where a competitor wins every time. Those are good targets for comparison pages and alternatives pages.
Other sites the AI cites most
Next to the competitor share, Other sites the AI cites most lists the top domains the answers link to, apart from your own. These are often review sites, directories, forums and media sites.
What to do with this list:
- Check if you are listed on the top review and directory sites.
- Look for forums and communities where your buyers ask questions. Semrush and Peec found Reddit is a top cited domain in AI search.
- Read the cited pages. They show the format and depth the AI trusts for that topic.
Note: AgenticSEO shows which domains are cited. It does not do outreach or monitor Reddit for you.
How competitors are used elsewhere
- Briefs and articles: competitors are part of the business profile, which goes into agent prompts. The writer knows who you compete with.
- QA: claims about competitors must still follow your approved facts and prohibited claims.
- Comparison tickets: research and gap tickets can create comparison pages when buyers ask "X vs Y" prompts.
Warning: Be fair in comparison content. Add rules to Prohibited claims, for example "Never say a competitor is unsafe". QA uses them.
